Parenting with Disabilities

This session will feature a conversation about ideologies, policies, practices, and laws that Other and harm disabled parents and their families, and how research, advocacy and legislative action can foster their Belonging and protection. 

The recently published policy brief, State of Change: State-Level Actions to Protect the Rights of Parents with Disabilities and their Children, will be used as an anchoring piece of this breakout session. 

Panelists will frame the issue, discuss the report, present the research, and talk about how the dynamics work in a variety of communities. They will present real-life child welfare and family court custody case summaries, and apprise the audience of the most current relevant developments in law & policy.
